Lead Teacher Assistant
Location: East Orange Center, Near UCF
Reports to: Classroom Teacher
Position Summary:
The Lead Teacher Assistant is a full-time postion which assists the classroom teacher in managing the daily operations in and around the classroom. These duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Perform teacher duties in absence of the teacher including, but not limited to, following lesson plans, and leading other staff in the classroom.
- Create and implement developmentally appropriate extended day lesson plans for assigned students.
- Assist teacher in developing and implementing lesson plans.
- Implement individual goals and objectives pursuant to Teachers' directions.
- Set up camp and extended day classroom consistent with developmentally appropriate practices for specific age levels.
- Utilize and ensure consistent implementation of behavior techniques and classroom management techniques.
- Assist in developing and implementing individual behavior plans as needed.
- Assist in planning and developing instructional materials and equipment, including enrichment materials for each unit, so that maximum use may be made of resources.
- Ensure and provide basic care giving duties (utilizing universal health and safety precautions) for children including but not limited to changing diapers, feeding children and cleaning children’s hands, faces, etc.
- Ensure and carry out daily/weekly housekeeping chores for the classrooms including, but not limited to, sweeping floors after meals and activities, wiping tables and counters, cleaning changing tables, placing trash in appropriate containers, and washing, sterilizing and putting away equipment (toys, laundry and dishes).
- Assist in the communication with therapists and other special service agencies and incorporate therapy and other special requirements into class activities.
- Maintain positive staff and parent interactions.
- Provide weekly progress notes for each child.
- Ensure Teacher and/or Extended Day Coordinator are informed of all parent and staff concerns and complaints.
- Ensure concerns with individual students are brought to the attention of the Teacher and/or Extended Day Coordinator.
- Participate in required number of meetings with classroom team, including therapists, teacher assistants and teacher.
- Supervise assigned teacher assistants during camp/extended day in the absence of the teacher.
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, selecting and prescreening of new employees as requested.
- Utilize UCP lesson plan format to create and implement weekly lesson plans for camp/extended day, provide to the Extended Day Coordinator and post in the classroom on a weekly basis.
- Assist with tracking student progress of individual goals.
- Ensure compliance with requirements and guidelines set forth by UCP, HIPPA, NAEYC, Department of Education, 4C, Department of Children and Families, and other State and Federal agencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Associate’s degree in Early Childhood or Child Development or a C.D.A.
Experience: 1 to 3 years experience as a teacher or teacher assistant, preferably in a pediatric, developmentally disabled population in a multi-disciplinary setting.
