Teacher - Toddler Classroom

Location: East Orange Center

Reports to: Education Team Leader & Center Director

Position Summary:

The Teacher is full-time postion which coordinates a manages the implementation and development of curiculum and activities for students in the classroom. Duties assigned include the following:

• Evaluate children in cognitive, social and self-help developmental areas.
• Select developmental learning activities appropriate to the attainment of the objectives for each child.
• Write Individual Education Plans (IEPs), develop new goals and update annually.
• Implement individual goals and objectives based on the child’s IEP.
• Set up classroom consistent with developmentally appropriate practices for specific age levels.
• Utilize and ensure consistent implementation of behavior techniques and classroom management techniques.
• Develop and implement individual behavior plans as needed.
• Plan and develop instructional materials and equipment, including enrichment materials for each unit, so that maximum use may be made of resources.
• Ensure and provide basic care giving duties (utilizing universal health and safety precautions) for children, including, but not limited to changing diapers, feeding children, and cleaning children’s hands, faces, etc.
• Ensure and carry out daily/weekly housekeeping chores for the classrooms, including, but not limited to sweeping floors after meals and activities, wiping tables and counters, cleaning changing tables,  placing trash in appropriate containers, and washing, sterilizing and putting away equipment (toys, laundry and dishes).
• Cooperate with Children Services by participating in case conferences and requesting them when it appears desirable as a preventative measure.
• Provide Family Services with information on students or families who appear to need special help or referrals.
• Communicate with therapists and other special service agencies, and incorporate therapy and other special requirements into class activities.
• Initiate, participate and document two way communication with parents/guardians on at least a quarterly basis to ensure parent/guardian input in their child’s education.
• Provide weekly progress notes for each child.
• Ensure Center Director and Education Team Leaders are informed of all parent and staff concerns and complaints.
• Ensure concerns with individual students are brought to the attention of the Education Team Leader and Unit Leader.
• Conduct required number of meetings with classroom team, including therapists, teacher assistants and lead teacher assistants.
• Supervise assigned teacher assistants and lead teacher assistants by:
  • Ensuring awareness and compliance of policies and procedures;
  • Monitoring performance on an ongoing basis;
  • Implementing progressive when needed, including writing supervisory notes, written warnings and performance improvement plans;
  • Developing and implementing Individual Development Plans;
  • Timely completing 45/90 day evaluations for new employees;
  • Timely completing annual evaluations for employees;
  • Training new employees on classroom procedures; and
  • Training employees on the individual needs of the students.
• Assist with recruiting, interviewing, selecting and prescreening of new employees as requested.
• Utilize UCP lesson plan format to create and implement weekly lesson plans, and post in the classroom on weekly basis.
• Track student progress of individual goals.
• Provide progress reports on all early intervention clients on a quarterly basis.
• Ensure compliance with requirements and guidelines set forth by UCP, HIPAA, NAEYC, Department of Education, 4C, Department of Children and Families, and other State and Federal agencies.
• Perform the following record keeping duties:
  • Keep complete and accurate records of student attendance;
  • Promptly complete and turn in evaluations and mandated paperwork;
  • Provide information concerning observed trends in student behavior;
  • Participate in committee assignments; and
  • Participate in parent/teacher pre-school and post-school conferences/open house.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in related field
Certification:  Florida Certificate of Eligibility in related field (on hire date); Temporary Educator’s Certificate (within 30 days of hire date) and addition of ESE and PReK/K/Middle School to Certificate within 90 days of hire date; Florida Professional Educator’s Certificate (within 1st year of hire date)
Experience: 1 to 3 years teaching experience preferred with pediatric developmentally disabled population in a multi-disciplinary setting, especially children with sensory issues.
